British Championships 2018 Recap

Successful British Championships for Ice Dundee skaters!

Last week Ice Dundee skaters Tash, Karly, Katie and Ana were off to compete at the British Championships 2018. Danni sadly had to withdraw from the competition due to injury and boot problems and we want to wish her a speedy recovery!

Junior Ladies

Ana competed in the Junior Ladies category against 20 skaters. She delivered a solid Short Program including three level 4 spins and a level 4 step. Ana received positive GOE for all of her elements and the highest Program Components. She earned a total of 48.70 points placing her second going into the Free Program.

Ana opened her Free Program with a cracking triple Lutz. Her program also included three level 4 spins and she again earned the highest Program Components. With a Free Program score of 78.20 points and a total combined score of 126.90 points Ana finished the competition in the great 2nd place.

Well done Ana!

Senior Ladies

It was a tough competition with ten Senior Ladies competing for top spots!

Katie opened her program with a nice triple Toeloop + double Toeloop combination followed by a well executed double Axel. Her program also included three level 4 spins earning her a total Short Program score of 47.78 points and putting her in 5th place.

Tash’s program included a great triple Loop + double Toeloop combination and a triple Salchow earning positive GOE across the board. She also executed three level 4 spins and a level 4 step, the only step in the Senior Ladies category to receive plus 4 GOE. A score of 53.75 points put her into 2nd place in the Short Program.

Karly opened her program with a nice triple Loop followed by a triple Toeloop + double Toeloop combination. She also executed three level 4 spins earning high GOE on all of them. A great score of 55.19 points put her into 1st place going into the Free Program.

Free Program

Ice Dundee skaters were lying in 1st, 2nd and 5th place after the Short Program!

Katie was the first Ice Dundee skater to take the ice and delivered a clean performance. In her program she executed one triple Salchow, two double Axels and two triple Toeloops, one of them in combination with a double Toeloop. Her program also included two level 4 spins and a very entertaining step sequence.  She earned 93.09 points in the Free Program and with a combined total of 140.87 points she finished the competition in the great 4th place, only a few points away from the podium.

Tash was the next Ice Dundee skater to perform and delivered an overall great performance. Her program included two triple Loops, one in combination with double Toeloop, as well as two triple Salchows of which one again was in combination. All of her spins received level 4 and with a great score of 98.12 points and a total combined score of 151.87 points the stakes were high for Karly who took the ice right after Tash’s performance.

Karly’s program included a triple Flip, two triple Toeloops and a double Axel as well as three level 4 spins which received great GOE. She earned a Free Program Score of 95.80 points and a total combined score of 150.99 points.

In the end it was a close finish in the Senior Ladies category with not even a point between 1st and 2nd place. Karly took home the silver medal and Tash crowned herself the new British Champion making it a hattrick after winning the title 3 years in a row.

Well done to Katie, Karly and Tash – it was a very exciting event with spectacular performances! Also huge congratulations to the great coaching team!
