Simon comes from a family of skaters, his mother, Christine, was an international skating coach, his older brother, Carl, was a well known show skater and his twin brother, Jason, a former Olympian who coaches ice skating in New York. So naturally Simon began skating at a very early age! He skated in all disciplines, singles, pairs and ice dance. He was a successful member of the British Team, competing at senior international events and medalling at many British Championships in both singles and pair skating. He is a NISA gold medalist in figures and free skating and pair skating and a silver medalist in ice dance.
Simon began his coaching career in Sunderland and moved up to Dundee in 2000, where he coaches alongside his wife, Debi. Simon has achieved a NISA level 5 coach in free skating and NISA level 4 coach in pair skating. He has coached British Champion skaters to Junior and Senior Grand Prix series, European Championship, World Championship, and Olympic Winter Games. At the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games, two of Simons athletes competed, Jenna McCorkell, and Matthew Parr.
Simon has been elected as Coaching Director of our governing body NISA for a number of years and is responsible for implementing the current coach education in the UK.
Simon is an ISU Technical Specialist in single and pair skating, he has officiated at the Junior and Senior Grand Prix Series, Grand Prix Final, European Championships, Four Continents, World Championships, and at two Olympic Winter Games – the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games.
